Hi,
I am interested in knowing what the legal requirements were in the early to mid 1940s in Scotland with respect to a couple adopting the child of an unmarried family member. Was there a legal requirement to have some kind of record if you adopted your sister's child or was this just a 'nod and a wink'? The child was born in a family home, so no hospital records. I am interested to know if there was any way to ascertain the name of the birth father. just curious.
Thanks, Dawn
