Thanks for your response. I'll follow up with the Angus Archives which, in the past, has been very helpful to me. The child received a different last name that we first see when he was put in a group home at age 6. I've looked through census records for Forfar to see if anyone with that last name existed but found no one. So, he was born with one last name and at least by the age of 6 had a different last name. We had thought it might have been an adoption, but perhaps was just a name he was given upon entering the group home. The home's records don't contain any mention of where the name came from, just the new name in their registration materials. I'll follow up with the archives next. Thanks again.
