Looking for guidance on how to trace origins of natural parents of Robert Lawson, born 1890 in Dublin, and the circumstances of his adoption as a baby.
Robert appears in the 1891 Census in Glasgow Scotland as the 'Adopted Son' of John and Margaret McBeth (my Great grandparents).
Robert was raised to adulthood in Glasgow by the McBeths and seems to have retained his surname Lawson. On his marriage record, of 24 September 1909 in Glasgow to Elizabeth Lang, Robert's parents are named as Robert Lawson, draper, and Elizabeth Lawson m.s. Watson. They are not recorded as being deceased.
I haven't been able to trace Robert's parents through Census or Marriage records in Scotland, and wonder if his parents may have been from Ireland.
- What's the best way to look for the parents' marriage record in Ireland?
- Is there likely to be a record anywhere of Robert's 1890 adoption?
Any guidance appreciated.
