Hi!
Sr. Sarto was still at Bessborough House when I went back in 2004. Some of the other sisters working with her were up in years and health starting to fail. I'm sorry that I am not sure who you can contact if their number is disconnected. Have you tried writing? (and by all means keep records of what you are sending!)
I don't have an actual address for the place even though I was there - it was quite easy to find. Here is an email address: email:
info@bessborough.ie & here are 2 of the people that their site shows to contact: The Bessborough Centre Management
Dr. Thomas Quigley,CEO
Lee Dempsey, Admin Manager
My thoughts are to contact that and explain your plight and could they please help you locate your info and/or put you in touch with the proper person that has taken that task over.
This site:
http://www.bessboroughcarecentre.ie/contact.html is where I got my information just now & it says it is copyrighted as of 2003 so it should be current.
Most records should be found in Joyce House, however, if you are NOT in Ireland that would entail having someone in Ireland doing the look up work. Don't get discouraged if you get sent down an incorrect path......They would NOT have let my Mum out of the country using the name she was using......yet it was good enough on my birth cert - go figure?? Some of what went on just doesn't make sense. I went with my gut feels and tried to be as polite as ever and I feel that it helped me get along. I also accidently ran into some of the right people which was strange but quite welcome and they were very helpful. 10 years is almost passed and times does cause changes but I wish you the very best in getting in touch so you can move on.
There was another group for adoptees that was called Adoption Ireland. I have not kept up with them, but met some nice folks there too.
Hope this info helps you out!
Take care!
Kindest regards,
Mary Margaret
