Hi,
Thanks for your message - I am just going over this case again and have only just seen this email thread - no idea why Ancestry didn't let me know you had posted?!
Your post was really helpful thank you! I am trying to trace what information I can but like you, have not found the Notts care service very helpful if at all! It doesn't help that I am undertaking this research on behalf of a friend whose mother was apparently living at this home when he was born in 1950, so the info I can obtain is limited as it's not for myself ! It's useful to know that it was definitely a Catholic home if run by Sisters - do you happen to know if there was a laundry there too?
His birth certificate confirms he was born at the local hospital so I'm guessing there was no maternity unit at the home like some larger homes had. I'm guessing your Aunt would have had a baby while there otherwise why would she have stayed there? Unless women could stay there outside of the usual 12 week confinement period? It's interesting that your Aunt was moved to another home - it would be interesting to know why wouldn't it?! I can't trace the lady I'm looking for after the record of her staying here, but there is a chance she was sent over from Ireland and may have returned there afterwards - hence why I wanted to check it was a Catholic home.
Not sure I will ever be able to find out the things I need to know! Good look with your searching and thanks for the photo - it's good to know what the building looked like!
Many thanks,
Rebecca
