My husband's mother was adopted. Her birth certificate states that she was born Sept 19, 1919 in Calgary. She was adopted by Frank and Grace Jones when she was around six or nine. She lived in the Lacombe, Alberta area with Frank and Grace and her adoptive brothers and sisters: John,1909, Robert, 1901,Florence,1899, Lee,1893, Earl 1895, and Ada, 1891.These birth years are approximate. Her siblings were considerably older than she. There was little family comradery. Lillian knew little of her origin, but at various times spoke of her own ideas. One idea was that she was from England, and had been adopted to do household chores. Another was that her father was a red headed Irishman and that her mother's name was Mary, and that Lillian's birth name was Sanders or Saunders. Perhaps the most memorable story was of her having a visit, when she was alone, from her birth mother, Mary, who was a worker at the Three Hill Bible School in Alberta. This story was never verified. I am trying to break the barrier of secretiveness of adopted children. Any avenues of investigation would be appreciated.
