Hi Casey,
I can offer one small helpful site for you. Check out
www.anybirthday.comHere's how I use it.
Click in to enter a name (you have your dad's name). anybirthday.com responds with the names, dates of births, and zips for persons with the name you seek. Then I approximate (or sometimes actually know) the birthdate for my searched one. Sometimes I write them ALL down that could apply.
Then I go to the map search on my homepage (for me it's Yahoo) and I enter the "free" zip I got. This tells me where I may look from here. Don't discount similar names as the one you search, for sometimes like zip codes can produce relatives for some folks were named for uncles, brothers, gdads, etc.
From here on in forward, you must subscribe. But by doing so, you would have access to an address and phone number for the 'hits' you found with the name. No, I don't solicit for them, and I don't subscribe (no cash flow) but I do use the name and birthdate search screen. Keep in mind, that sometimes there are many people with that name and at last look these responses were not numbered. I did sometimes find myself scanning thru pages having no ideas how many I would look thru. Still, it can be invaluable and would be an effort you could perform on computer at home rather than flying to Maury's or Jenny's house.
Good luck. If the birthdate search / location search works for you, pass it on to someone else.
