Some questions for seasoned searchers? Re John Fitzgerald NSW

Hi,

I posted a question about a John Fitzgerald some days ago and got some kind responses. Unfortunately he cannot be the John Kenneth Fitzgerald who was turned up, because the one I'm searching for was separated from his wife in the mid sixties.

Just a quick rundown: I am looking for my biological father or anyone related to him. My mother says his name was John Fitzgerald and that she's sure he had been married to a woman named Mavis. They had two sons. He was a truck driver for Western Transport, and lived in Bexley NSW the last time she saw him before I was born in 1966. He would have been about 43 years old at this time. I have not a skerrick of any other information.

I have searched the electoral rolls until my eyes have just about popped out. The only John and Mavis connection I can find is a John Wills and Mavis Zeta Fitzgerald, but they both died in 1959. There are two other women whose second name was Mavis who both married John Fitzgeralds but one was Dubbo and the other Portland; they seem to have remained there all of their married lives. I've searched here and with BDM NSW - the same information checks out.

I found only one truck-driver - John Kenneth - who can be ruled out, and another, John Lionel whose profession is just listed as "driver" but his marriage details also appear to be the wrong ones for me.

The John Fitzgerald I am seeking should have been listed as a truck-driver as far back as 1963 - this was when my mother met him and he was, as I understand, still married to "Mavis." They separated after a while, and were def. no longer together in 1966.

Sorry to ramble, could I ask a couple of questions?

If John Fitzgerald Truck Driver is not on the rolls I've looked at, could there be a reason for this - for example, might he have just not registered a change of occupation when he voted?

If I can find no suitable John and Mavis connection, might my mother just be plain wrong about his wife's name, or could there be another reason they are not on the roll? I think that if they were a NSW couple, still married in 1963, they ought to have been on that roll....yes?

I'm not terribly experienced and this all feels a bit daunting but I would dearly love to know anything about him. I would be really grateful for any advice I can get on looking further because I feel as if I've reached a bit of a stalemate.

Thankyou for reading this,

Louise.
