My Grandfather recently passed away and as we were going thru his things we found out that he was adopted!!! NO one knew this! We believe that it was an adoption within the family but we are not sure? His name is Charles Emerson Backstrom DOB Jan 13th 1931 in Kansas City, KS but lived in Iowa. I do not know when he came to Iowa and we are not sure if maybe his Mother Mary Louise Deford was his mother and had him out of wedlock and later had her husband adopt him or if maybe his birth Mom was a relative of Mary? Does anyone know how to go about researching this? This could change EVERYTHING we thought about where our family was from and if we/I am not a true Backstrom?
