I lived in Galveston County Texas for 25 years until moving here Jan 1999. Since my brother lives outside Dallas in Irving, and works in Fort Worth, I know this area real well. Surely talking on the phone with the agency's center may strike in you the desire to visit there.
Perhaps you know the story of Edna Gladney as portrayed by actress Greer Garson during the 1930s-(40s?). It's a movie about a woman who championed rights for the children who otherwise would have had the dreaded "huge, red, letters spelling ILLIGITIMATE" stamped across their birth certificate at birth. She spoke before the Supreme Court on the effects this red stamping had on the future, indeed, the rest of the life of the individual. The Supreme Court ruled yea and this practice was stopped unto this day. Sometimes "The Edna Gladney Story" airs on the old-movie channels.
Sorry for presuming upon you with my story. It's very interesting as movies go. Most movies will glamourize a famous figure. In her case, they didn't have to.

P.S. By all means, call the number listed in Fort Worth and ask that an application be sent to you for filing with the registry. Happy Trails! M
