Mary June Ferry Bingham of Eugene, Oregon died Oct. 19, 2011 at age 89.
Mary June Ferry was born June 12, 1922, in Waukesha, Wisconsin, to Ignatius and Madelyn Bartholomew Ferry.
She graduated from the Academy of Notre Dame de Namur in Philadelphia and attended Carroll College in Waukesha, Wis., and Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois.
She served as a lieutenant (junior grade) in the U.S. Navy WAVES from 1944 to 1948.
She was a Curtiss Wright Aviation Cadette.
She married John Julian Bingham on June 5, 1948, in Des Plaines, Ill. He died Oct. 28, 1993.
She worked as a secretary in the Riddle School District.
She was a member of The Military Officers Association of America
A cancer survivor who participated in the annual fund-raising walk well into her late 80s, she worked as a volunteer for the American Cancer Society, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, and the Peace Health Senior Peer Counselor Program. Her interests ranged widely from conservation techniques and medical science to genealogy, history and all things Irish.
A disciplined, life-long learner, she kept impressive files of clippings on all sorts of subjects.
Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Bingham of Eugene, Oregon; two sons, Mark of Alaska and Christopher of Myrtle Creek; two sisters, Virginia Satchell of Spring, Texas, and Pamela Dunham of Portland; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A son, Jerald L. Bingham, died previously.
The funeral Mass of Christian burial will be held at 12:30 p.m. Oct. 31 at St. Alice Catholic Church in Springfield
Burial will be at noon Nov. 1 at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland.
