Looking for more information about my great grandfather John Conway (1900-c1978). He was in the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders and was interned in Stalag VIII-A Gorlitz. His army service number was 2980896. I'd also be grateful for any general information about the camp itself beyond what I've been able to glean from Wikipedia.

Thanks for the tip - I had already discovered this service but I've bust my budget for research this month! I did find out from my mother that John had donated a book he kept while a POW to the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders museum. They emailed me today with some photos of it which show that he was in a whole series of camps:

Stalag IX-C Bad Sulza (1941)
Oflag VI-B Dossel (1942)
Stalag Luft III Sagan (1943-44) this is the famous "Great Escape" camp.
Stalag VIII-A Gorlitz (late 1944?) possibly also VIII-C
Stalag XI-B Fallingbostel (presumably up to the end of the war)

Hopefully I will be able to find out more once I save up enough to request his army records.

Our family has a heirloom Rego Clothiers Ltd kilt circa 1939.
#2 size 8 for 5'5" to 5'6"
28 waist and 26 breech.
I bought it 30 years ago at a Scottish Games from a vendor in Sacramento, CA.

Written inside the liner is "Ln Cp Conway", but it was crossed out and below it is "Pvt. J. Gibson 22773645"
