Dear Military Historians

This is going to just make your day, I promise you! Whilst going back through my deceased Grandfather's (Albert Norman Nicholson) "snaps" he took whilst serving in Africa/Middle East during WW2, he and a few fellow Aussie diggers found this statue of a giant Perrier bottle standing on a massive base. There is nothing written on the back of the little photo, and on the front you can just barely make out Arabic writing. I have asked the Returned Services League of Victoria, the Australian War Memorial, posted the image in the local paper, and none of them have ever seen or even heard of this statue before!

I have even attempted to contact Perrier themselves with zero success. You'd think that if anybody would know anything about this statue, Perrier would know, but they had not responded to my email, and that was 2 years ago.

You would think that if 3 Aussies found it, alot more people would have seen it, heard about it, etc., but no - it's a complete mystery. So now I'm spreading the word online, as time is running out, as my Uncles and Aunts are in their 70's to 80's, and I would consider it a lifetime achievement to finally solve the mystery about this photo. Please respond if you have any information about this photo - even what the writing on the base means in English would be great. Thanking you all in advance for any little tidbits you can provide,

Dianne

Good one, :):) most stuff like that on the internet is usually a photoshop job.

The "writing" on the base looks like Ancient Egyptian Hieroglyphs.

Not suggesting that it's that old of course. :):)

It would be worth quite a few bob on ebay I'll bet. :):)

Perrier are missing a great idea for an advertising campaign.

My guess is that it's an advertising sign.

Dear Infosending1

It definitely isn't Egyptian Hieroglyphs, because they didn't have diamond symbols. I can definitely confirm that this photo is the real McCoy, and wasn't photoshopped - what you see is what was photographed in WW2.

Attached is a close up of the base. I should have done this before, but it didn't occur to me - sorry.
