Dayle Dement, 26, husband of Mrs. Louise Kelly Dement of White Cottage, Ohio lost his life in the sinking of the USS Indianapolis July 30.
He was previously listed as missing in action.
The Indianapolis was enroute to the Philippines from Guam after delivery of the atomic bomb, and was 450 miles from Leyte when two heavy explosions occurred, causing the ship to sink within 15 minutes.
Dement entered the Navy in December, 1943, and was home in May of 1944.
He served 18 months overseas.
Prior to his induction, he was employed at the Columbus Cement plant at East Fultonham, Ohio.
In addition to his widow he is survived by two sons, Timmy, three years old and Michael, age 6; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Dement of the Pinkerton road; (South Zanesville, Ohio) a brother, Deane, and a sister, Patricia, both of Pinkerton road.
