My late mother left King Cross Station, London with 249 others and took a train to Gourock and then by boat on the SS Strathnaver to Bombay. Her name was Isobel Mary Cumming and she shared a cabin with her friend Dorothy no: 147 Deck A. The Commandant was a Miss Corsar and a V.A.D. nurse Marian Robertson the author of Sister Sahibs & worked at Cambridge Hospital, Aldershot. I am trying to trace the other V.A.D. nurses that left King's Cross Station to travel to Gourock and then to Bombay. Does anyone know who was there either on the train or on the SS Strathnaver. I also have the following names but I am no certain whether they were all on the same boat. They are: Verity Iles (B: India M: Peter Church?) Freda (stayed at Grand Hotel), Diane (on Assam mail train), Dorothy (married Harry a ghurka officer in Assam) , Joan (on British troopship to Rangoon during bombing of Hiroshima). Others are as follows: Sister Cooper (Theatre Sister at Cambridge Hospital, Aldershot & 14th Army for one year) Marian Irwin (nee Roberts principle Matron 12th Army). V.A.D.'s Myra & Jean at C.C.S. at Moulmein. Sister Baptie (engaged to an officer she met in Imphal) Matron Miss Sherbourne (Rangoon). Any information of the names mentioned will be gratefully received as well as any names or details of others who were on the same train or bus or connected to anyone mentioned
