In 1941 my late mother worked as a V.A.D. in Galloway House and was there for two years altogether. There were good times and not so good times but she enjoyed it all the same. I am trying to expand her short memoir and am looking for information. There were about five other V.A..D's who worked there, a matron and assistant matron and a lady doctor for day to day care who had been a medical missionary. There was also a surgeon and anaesthetist from Baldroon. Their names were Squadron-Leader Reid and Flight Lieutenant Reid, the first a Scot and the other an Irishman. My mother worked upstairs with a Sister Johnstone who she claimed was quite strict. She also spent a lot of time with theatre sister Kay Fitzpatrick and she and my mother used to cycle down to Port William. If anyone has any information on the people I have mentioned and have any information on the V.A.D nurses and any others I would be grateful.
