I am looking for several of my Daddy's Navy Buddies. He joined the Navy on December 4, 1942 and served until January 25, 1946. He was 26 years old when he joined. He is now coming up on 84 in October and he is desperate to find some of his old friends. One of the was Walter Carter. Walter was from Glenville NC. There was also a Hugh Carter also from NC, but I don't have a city. There was also an Arthur Lee Brown from Arlington Virginia. and a Johnny Munseil from Detroit Michigan (Not sure my spelling of Johnny's surname is correct. Another of Daddy's buddies was Willie Hughes from Akron Ohio, and James Green from Greenwood South Carolina. Daddy says that James was 18 when he enlisted and Daddy was like a big brother to him. One of Daddy's officers on one of his ships was a Theo Ball, not sure of his hometown.
If this helps Daddy was on several ships while in the navy. His first ship was the SS Bernard N Baker. The second ship was the SS Stan Dillanvers. The last ship was the George W Livey he was on this ship for 13 months and he crossed the Atlantic Ocean 24 times during his stay in the Navy. If anyone remembers Daddy, please contact me for a possible reunion or at least to receive information as to how to contact him. His full name is James Milledge Brock
but some of his close friends called him Jimmy. He is in good health and remembers all of his friends and his Navy days fondly. Please contact me if this information rings a bell for anybody.

Sincerely, Janet Brock Bridges

Hi Janet,

I am looking for my daddy's Army AirCorps buddies, so I understand what you are up against.

If you are also into genealogy, I'd suggest that you subscribe to the BRIDGES surname list through RootsWeb. We have a great group of people who are very helpful!

I have my dad's pictures when he went to basic training and on the back he lists everyone in the picture. There are a lot of guys in the picture. Its a group picture taken in San Diego, Calif. He was on the ship #477 in the Navy. He was a cook on the ship. If anyone wants a copy of the picture I'd be glad to send a copy. My dad's name was Charles Franklin Nichols Jr. They called him "Junior". You can email me at baglady1545@hotmail.com
