My grandfather, Harvey Edwin "Buster" Thomas, was a "Screaming Eagle" i.e. a paratrooper with the 101st Airborne. He passed away about a year and a half ago and I miss him terribly. I am now searching for anyone who may have known him in the service. I know that he jumped over Holland on September 17, 1944 and was captured October 6. From February 22nd through April 14th 1945 he was forced to march approximately 960 miles. I believe the destination was Poland. He was on his mother's front porch in mid-May when she received the telegram telling her he was safe and back under Army control. I am hoping to find someone who may have known him. I do not know where he was held. I remember him mentioning being in a boxcar packed tight with men at some point.
Please feel free to e-mail me if you might have any information on him or these events.
Gratefully,

Ron W. Hamilton
