Between some linens in a box at an auction in San Antonio, Texas was the cap, shirt, Dress hat bearing the ship name and some papers ( no discharge) for a man named Harry James Williams Jr. he served aboard the USS Manley #74 in the European Duty. He was enlisted in Houston on 12 Mar 1935 and served I believe until Feb of 1946. Upon returning he gave a address in Corpus Christi, Texas. Service # 359-86-04. Without a date of birth I have not been able to track him to return the items to his family. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

He was discharged in 1939, that vessel was his last ship.

He might have reenlisted during WW2 but apart from one 1939 ship's crew muster list for him on that vessel, all of the same names on subsequent muster lists have a different service number, and I don't know if when someone reenlisted in the U.S. Navy whether or not they were given a new service number.

As for supposedly being born in 1892, an enlistment age in 1935 of circa 43 years old, seems a tad on the high side.

His Naval service record will give his age and biographical details.

The source of the auction items might provide a clue.
