Searching for relatives of James A. Hertz, who d. 12/12/1944, probably in Germany during WWII.

If the info I've found here is correct, his parents were Louis (b. PA) and Marion (b. Canada), and his brother was William H. (b. Canada). James was also b. Canada, according to the 1930 census (Rye, Westchester Co., NY). He served in the 3d Armored Division.

My son and I spent 2 hours researching online last night, finding snippets of info on James. He was a 2nd Lt. when he died. We have been unable to find confirmation of his burial place (Ancestry has it as Arlington National Cemetery, but their site does not have him at all).

Social Security Death Index shows a William H. Hertz d. in FL in 2005, but I have been unable to find an obituary for him. If necessary, I will send for his death certificate to see if a family remember signed as the informant.

I am not related to the Hertz family, but someone in our extended family has an item of James's that might have been given away or sold by accident and we want to return it to the family if they want it.

I've also posted the bulk of this query to the HERTZ message board.

Please feel free to e-mail me directly at mpike@rochester.rr.com.

We consider this to be very important! Thank you.

You obviously have more information about the veteran than is available on line. The listing on World War II dead is a US Army record and is probably correct. Not all veterans buried in Arlington National Cemetery are listed in the VA National Grave Locator. ArlingtonCemetery.net is a private website and has only selected veterans.

Call directly to Arlington Cemetery asking for the specific grave location, date of death and location. They may be able to give you the name of the family member who was responsibel for his burial. Your date of death should be traceable to location as to where the 3rd Armored was at that time. Since he was KIA in Europe request his IDPF record from the Army - See information concerning those records in Genealogy.com WW-II forum

In May 2011 I previously posted a response regarding his burial location at Arlington National Cemetery. Were you ever able to obtain his burial information from Arlington Cemetery?
