83 yr old DAD WWll Veteran Not WELL NEED HELP

Hello,My dad is 83,starting to have signs of dementia.We are desperately trying to locatecHOW and where can we learn what medals and letters he was awarded in WWll.
HHis Mother lobng since passed ,had his medals and Dadd never could find them in her stuff.
He was told that president Truman had written him a Thank you letter for his service tom his Counmtry.Is there a way to find a copy of that letter?
PLEASE,help me time is passing and i would like to Do something for Dad before it is too late.He is Proud and should be of his service in the Navy.His name is
Claude Joseph Roy,born June 1926 was born in Duson,LA but lived in Rayne or Crowley area whe he went into the NAVY.
If anyone has any info please email right away.

Well it seems like your stuck at the moment. I would recommended contacting a veteran from his unit or division. Look around for veteran clubs or legions, they will most likely have the right answers for you. Good luck.

If you go to google.com type in Standard Form 180. Print that off. That will tell you how to get military records. He is entitled to a one time replacement of his medals. It may take a few months to get them.

I believe there are Navy muster lists on ancestry. If you can find his name, you may be able to pinpoint more specifically his units.

There is a world war 2 website .. the guy that started it passed recently.. he was as great man.. found pics and info for me about my great uncle that was a POW.. check this site out .. or post questions
