My great-grandfather was at Guadalcanal according to one of his son's but I don't have any other information on his military career. His name was Delio Garcia and was from Philadelphia, Pa. He was of Cuban descent and born in Tampa, FL. May have been married to his wife, Laura, while in the service. His younger brother Roland Garcia was enlisted in the U.S. Army. I have no idea what unit he was in or anything about his time in the Marines Corp. If anyone can shed some light on this I'd really appreciate it.
Wow! I just happened to come across this conversation. I'm sorry but was it absolutely necessary to say "Hopefully he is still alive." I understand that most people being born in 1917 aren’t alive today, but just shocked to see you found it completely necessary to include that.
I am Carl A. Budinich Sr., granddaughter. I hope that ya'll got the information that ya'll were looking for. My Grandfather did indeed pass away this past Friday, November 6, 2009. So, I sure hope you didn't hesitate in making that phone call. He would have loved to provide anyone with information on his military career. That was always a topic he especially enjoyed discussing.
Courtney M
--------------------------------------

Carl Arsane Budinich Sr.
Mr. Carl Arsane Budinich, Sr., passed away Friday, November 6, 2009, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Biloxi, MS.

Mr. Budinich was born in Biloxi, MS, on January 6, 1917. He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Alma Rebecca Lewis Budinich; parents, John and Catherine Battaya Budinich; sisters, Antonia "Plucky" Budinich Malone and Hilda Budinich McAllister; and his brothers, George Budinich and Francis "Buck" Budinich.

He is survived by his son, Carl A. (Brenda) Budinich, Jr. of Mobile, AL; daughter, Sue Budinich McClure of Biloxi; six grandchildren, Denise Budinich (Jeff) Hale of Boise, ID, Marc (Monique) Budinich of New Orleans, LA, Craig (Tracy) Budinich of Gaithersburg, MD, Eric Budinich of Mobile, AL, Mandy McClure (Will) Brawley of Columbia, SC, and Courtney McClure of Biloxi; and seven great grandchildren. Rodney Budinich, a beloved nephew, devoted much time to his uncle. Mr. Budinich had numerous nieces and nephews who held a special place in his heart.

Mr. Budinich was proud to have served in both World War II and the Korean War. He was with the 932nd Field Artillery Battalion and Cannon Company, 137th Infantry, 31st Division. His military career began in North Africa and continued to Naples, Italy. He fought in Cassino, Anzio, and Naples in Italy, and then in Marseilles, France. He was in combat in France, Austria, Germany, Belgium and fought in the Battle of the Bulge under General George Patton. He was in Germany when World War II ended. He was awarded five Battle Stars in his campaigns and was also awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, the Bronze Star, the European Theater of War Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the WW II Victory Medal, The American Campaign Medal and the Army Good Conduct Medal. Mr. Budinich was a Staff Sergeant and Warrant Officer during WW II. In 1950, during the Korean War, he helped create a new guard unit in Biloxi, MS, the 631st Field Artillery Battalion. The unit was federalized and shipped to Germany.

Mr. Budinich was raised on Delauney Street in Biloxi. When he was growing up, he and his brothers caught fish and sold them to Emile Desporte at his market. He caddied at the Biloxi Country Club (today's Keesler Air Force Base). He also took people in his row boat to the islands to fish. He was retired from the Civil Engineers Department at Keesler Air Force Base. During his retirement, he traveled extensively with his wife, Becky, and loved to fish. Mr. Budinich was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Biloxi. he will be sadly missed by his loving family and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, November 11, 2009, at 12 noon at Nativity B.V.M. Catholic Cathedral where friends may visit from 10 a.m. until service time. Interment will follow at Biloxi City Cemetery with Military Honors.

Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home, 675 Howard Avenue, Biloxi, is in charge of arrangements.

View and sign register book at www.bradfordokeefe.com.

Hi Lynn
I've just been reading your request and wondered if you managed to trace your grandfather. The reason I ask is that I am hoping you will be able to give me some advice. I am trying to trace my friends father Walter H Jones who was an American GI based at Burtonwood during WW2. At the end of the war he was shipped back to the USA.

I would be very grateful for any help and advice you are able to give me.

Best wishes
Susan

My granpa was a Coxswain on a Higgins boat during WWII he made 3 of the 4 major invasions during this time frame. One of the more memorable stories that I heard from him was how his boat and several others were left on guaudal canal when the fleet got word that the japs were moving in. If any body nows some one that was there and might know him I have a picture of him and a couple other guys on a ship. I have no idea what ship he was on. any help sure would be appriciated. I would like to here a few of those stories one more time.

Hi,

Have you got your father's induction paper's? Or maybe your dad's separation paper's? If you do not maybe a another
member. Your Mom, Grandmother, maybe a Sister,Brother,Grandfather, uncle, Aunt, Cousin.

Another way is go on ancestry. Put what info you have then see what comes up,. May be you have his Social Security Number. Maybe thru the grape line someone, may know the induction center where he went in. Could have been another state.

I hope this is helpful. I do have other way's.

LINDALAD68

Mark. As I said that is all I could find on him. The state of NY does not have many records on line. As for the Declaration, you would have to contact the court itself. Wish I could help further but I am located out west in Arizona. Good luck. Don

Hi, Go to the link below, download the required forms, fill in & send to the address. Cost is £30 & can take a while. This info is not in the public domain & this is where the records are held. You are lucky having yout grandfathers service no. I am trying to do the same for my fathers WW2 service records but don't have his service no. & the MOD are now saying that without it they can't find anything, which is not what it says in their info + they won't refund the £30.

Good luck with your search

http://www.army.mod.uk/welfare-support/family/6980.aspx

Hi all,
I'm trying to research my fathers WW2 service history, without much luck!

I've been in contact with the MOD APC, given them his full name & DOB + any other details that I thought would be relavent but they say that 'after extensive searches, no file can be found'.

They are asking for his service number, which obviously, I don't have or I would have provided it in the first place.

Are there any means of tracing service numbers issued to army personel?

MOD don't seem to be particularly helpful but are quite happy to keep your money for telling you absolutely zilch!

Cheers
I am looking for military information on my grandfather, Colonel Francis Thomas "Foge" Fogarty. He was born 1904 or 1906 (records will say 1906, but I suspect they are wrong) in Springfield, Missouri, and died 1992 in Greenbrae, California. His parents were Thomas and Laura O'Hara Fogarty. He enlisted in the army during World War II when he was in his late 30's and rose to the rank of colonel. He was stationed in many different places across the world, including Europe and Africa. His military career ended in 1946 when he married Dorothy Louise Jackson and became the father of three children. His service as a colonel was written about in books, I have been told, but I haven't seen them yet. Any information anyone has about his military service would be of great interest to me.
Thomas Fogarty

I'm unsure of what the QMH means, might be an abbreviation for the hospital. The "XD3" refers to transportation to a japanese prison camp.
Although the final address may be the same, the site for records of former WWII soldiers is really http://www.veterans-uk.info/service_records/army.html

As you have his service number you are likely to get a more positive response - be sure to request ALL information they hold.

I'm trying to find the family of PVT Charles E. Whisenhunt, ASN: 36692939, 81st Anti-Aircraft Battalion, 101st Airborne Division. PVT Charles E. Whisenhunt was KIA on September 19, 1944.

PVT Whisenhunt was born on July 14, 1925. Son of Jack and Gladys Whisenhunt (Loving). He had a sister named Judy.

The address of Charles' parents, back in 1945 was:
Rural Route #2, Bluford IL

PVT Charles Whisenhunt entered the service on September 17, 1943.

PVT Whisenhunt is buried at the Netherlands American Cemetery and his grave is adopted. The adoptive family would like to get in touch with the Whisenhunt family.

Looking forward to hearing from anyone who can help us.
