Buried at Normandy. I walked up on his grave while visiting Normandy. I have found the record of his grave and that his next of kin is Mamie Fowler, but I am no very savvy with this website and cannot find anymore information. Would love it if someone else could find something.

Have you obtained the soldier's I.D.P.F. (Individual Deceased Personnel File)?

Surnames: Fowler
Further to what dzr130 has told you. Service number 35664874.

This is his American Battle Monuments Commission listing. aka the ABMC.
https://www.abmc.gov/search-abmc-burials-and-memorialization...

Why doesn't America include the service number and the age of WW2 casualties on their headstones.

He was born in 1912 and he was drafted on 10th October 1942 in Cincinnati, and he was married.

This is his enlistment record http://tinyurl.com/ndy7gcp

This is where and how to apply for the IDPF file that was mentioned, two different addresses, so you'll need to check which address is current.

Presumably this man is a relative, and you may know for certain that he is your relative, or you might be assuming that because of his name, if so be aware that there are 2 other WW2 casualties of that name, both in the Army and both buried in France.

There are also 43 enlistment records for the surname of Fowler and the first forename of Richard only 3 of them don't have an additional forename, the other 2 casualties do have an additional forename. http://tinyurl.com/pdy2hdq

Also only casualties who are buried in a military cemetery are listed on the ABMC database, if they're buried in a private cemetery they won't be listed and some American casualties were repatriated at the request of their next of kin and some of them were buried in private cemeteries.

Thanks for all of the information!! I do not think he is a relative. I just had a very strange thing happen, though. My husband is also Richard Fowler. Out of almost 10,000 servicemen buried in the cemetery, I walked right up to this grave with my husband's name. Maybe just a strange coincidence, but I just felt the need to learn a little more about him.

To avoid any confusion here is the full address.

How to Locate Someone Who Fought in World War II

Individuals Who Never Made It Home

Request the Individual Deceased Personnel File (IDPF). The IDPF will almost always establish his unit and give information on his burial. In many cases, it will also give valuable information about where and when he died, possibly including reports of the action in which he died. For men whose remains were never recovered or identified, extremely valuable records of the testimonies of his buddies are usually included, giving extraordinary information about the action, what happened to him, and when they last saw him. NOTE: You must send a letter before any information can be sent out to you. The letter should include your signed statement of willingness to pay the Freedom of Information Act fees for the work involved. If you are requesting your relative's IDPF, they may not charge you.

I submitted a comment with the updated address to that ehow article.

You just missed the 83rd Division reunion in Louiseville Kentucky by a day.

Richard was a medic, or at least he was serving in the medical company of the regiment, I suspect that he was killed in a night counter attack by German Panzer Grenadiers whilst his unit was in an entrenched position.

I think that it was his unit which held the record for the highest number of battlefield casualties cleared from the frontline to the rear in a 24 hour period.

His dad was English and his mom was American. Tell you more about it all later.
