Looking for UK or US army personnel who would have been in a town southern Holland called Geleen. The towns of Sittard and Maastricht are also nearby. If anyone out there has or had a relative connected to this I would appreciate any info available. Thank you.

Not knowing exactly what you're looking for, there's a very large group of units you would have to sift through. I would try any forums or message boards for 2nd and 7th Armored Division's, or the 30th and 104th Infantry Divisions. They were the majority of the soldiers that were in the Geleen area in late 1944 during the Market Garden operations and afterword. Some where there for a month and some only a few days. Typical is the 702nd Tank Destroyer Battalion, here's their after action report for Sep/Oct 1944-

and a Royal Artillery Regiment that was in Galeen-

This will help explain American troop movements in Holland and why it's so hard to find information on them.

Many thanks for this information you have passed on. Unfortunately I do not have names of many units that would have been in the area but looking again at some of the photos I have found I can just about see through some of the faded writing so I will look a lot closer and hope I can make out what it says. In the meantime I will look at what you have sent me and hopefully learn more of what took place.
Thank you again.

If you have photos of troops or vehicles that have the writing on them, there are a few things you can look for. The men would have unit patches on their shoulders, usually the shape in the US Army would be fairly distinctive for each unit. Vehicles usually have unit identification painted on the bumpers or side of the vehicles. British and US uniforms are also distinct from one another. If you can make anything out on the photos, we can try to decipher it.
