A man I am doing research on -- Benjamin N. Kellogg -- was discharged honorably in Sept 1918. The notation 'SCD' follows. Is there somewhere to find out why he was discharged on the Certif of Disability? I have ordered his complete file from NARA, but that will take months I have heard. Thanks. Fred in Kent, OH

Some others I have seen had a percentage follow. SCD 50%, SCD 25% etc, so with no % it must mean 100%. As to the cause that would be should be in his records or maybe a newspaper account in his home town paper. Ohio State Archives may have copies of records.

His WWI Draft Registration Card may have the answer....Under the name Ned Benjamin Kellogg at 479 Stinaff St. Kent OH has noted on back "..is not just right mentally. parents have never been able to send him to school."notation dated May 29, 1917 Card Filed June 5th 1917 in Portage County OH.
The database "Ohio Military Men 1917-1918 has Benjamin N Kellog's address as 479 Stenna Street Kent OH. In Google maps there is no Stenna St but there is a 479 Stinaff St address in Kent.

Hi. Thanks. Yes, I have the draft reg cards (WWI and WWII). There is no doubt he was mentally retarded. A court later ruled such. Just trying to find that SCD to see what the military thought/did. He was in the service for about six months. Fred

For some reason your reply to my posting has not been alerted to my email address and when I click on it I get a webpage that states "page no longer available" Even if I click on your user name to contact you directly, I get an error. It now even happens when I try to read my own response. I am posting this to let you know that I can't make any reply to yours. If you are looking for other information send me an email.
Most all other databases of censuses, SSDI, OH death index, WWII Draft Card, newspaper articles of this Benjamin N Kellogg is under the name Ned Kellogg or Ned B. Kellogg. He is in some newspaper articles because he was convicted of murder and in prison from 1945 till his death. The reason he was not given the death penalty was mentioned in one article, that the Judge took into account his mental capacity was that of an 8 to 9 year old child.

Hi DecMay. I'm having same problem as you with error messages. Yes, I have all that info on Kellogg. I'm doing a documentary on him and his supposed roles in the murders of two women, one in 1933 and one in 1945. He was severely mentally retarded, and I'm just trying to finish off my research on him by investigating the SCD. He has gone by Ned, by Benjamin, and even with the typo'd 'Red'. Thanks.
