Wow, this is wonderful information. We believe Alfred was attached to the medical corp and he did serve for all four years. Just yesterday my mother (90) was saying she remembers Granddad Raine bringing out his medals on Armistice Day each year and laying them on the table. No one has them now but at least I know he earned some. I will search these records you have so kindly linked me too and see what more I can find. According to my mom, great grandfather never spoke of the war but then, I don't think many did.

Thank you again. You obviously have looked into these kinds of records a lot. My own father served in WW11 and when he passed away a few years ago, he was buried in uniform with his medals on. We all have pictures of the medals though.
I have learned so much about the military in these last couple of days thanks to your help and knowledge. It's all part of putting the puzzle together of one more ancestor's life.
