Re: Pte Edwin Kirtland - Wounded?
If you will look at his service record. they have a listing of most of them. I was under the impression you knew about them from his service record. I am sure all of them are listed. I had looked them up and there is one medal Index Card which list his various regiments, medals. numbers and Regimental numbers.
I was trying to concentrate on his medical info. As I said you should go through his service record and look at the agreements he signed and you will have a greater understanding why shortly after him being wounded he was assigned home duty.
It was in this period he made agreements toward the end of the war and afterwards; that whatever happen from his wound he became limited into what he could do and especially in combat. In fact it took away a lot of participation in combat. He took a reduction I think in rank to be able to serve in the engineers and later retirement.
He is a very interesting and love the service and was a dedicated individual. He was a true professional soldier to me if their was one. He was an honorable person and the old term. "They threw away the mold". He couldn't be duplicated. Stern stuff that a lot of soldiers were made of.

Re: Pte Edwin Kirtland - Wounded?
He is isn't he, I thought that also. I have only started to find out more about Edwin's record so it's all new to me and very interesting. I would love to have seen a picture of him as a soldier.
In his service record it states he was home for quite some time, do you think this was due to his injury (gunshot) or because his agreement of continued service was up? Edwin wasn't a 'young' soldier would this have made a difference? I think as you have suggested previously he volunteered to go back but had to drop a rank in order to go back.

Re: Pte Edwin Kirtland - Wounded?
I am sorry he was not wounded in June. He probably was wounded in July. I was just looking at what was in the service record again. What ever W: Set: H. B. 759 RF 6:8:16. It happen on 6 August 1916, Which was shortly after he was wounded in July most likely.
I went to the internet and tried to trace it down. In ref. to H. B. it kept referring to Blood. So it was probably he was wounded in July and had to have some work done in August and like Info was saying it could have been in ref. to a hospital.
Is there anyway you would share the info on the casualty report. I could find nothing. I am at a loss. I have no answer to your basic question. I found the service records and the MIC cards as well as to the other info. pertaining to them as did Info. The service records have nothing other than he was wounded and that info that I am unable to decipher. I really don't think it could tell us much. It seems to be a procedure he had to do in August in ref to his wound.

Re: Pte Edwin Kirtland - Wounded?
I'm struggling to upload the report. It states that he was admitted on the 16/7/1916 and transferred to sick convoy on the 16/7/16. His wound was a gun shot to his shoulder and it mentions Hospital Ship Carisbrooke Castle. I don't think this helps on terms of the August date.
Thanks for looking into this, I shall keep looking and hopefully find out more.

Re: Pte Edwin Kirtland - Wounded?
Don't worry about it. Do what you can. I have always had a situation with transposing info to the Board. If you don't get it to the boards. It doesn't happen. If this is all you have. and there is no more to add. Then that is it.
There is only one conclusion you can come to at this point> It happen on 16 july 1916. He was transferred to a sick convoy on 16 July 1916. We might assume and I hate to assume that he was either still sick and might have been under hospital care until 6 August 1916 or he came in for some kind of treatment. A shot Gun to the shoulder would most likely put him out of commission for a while. He was probably coming in for some treatment.
You can assume he wasn't too bad; but they did change his status to BI. If you don't come up with anything else. You know one thing. He was able to serve further with certain stipulations. unless you can get hold of a pension record. I think you will have to settle with what you have.
It has been nice working with you. If there is any way that I can be of help. Let me know. It's your call and don't sweat the small stuff. You're doing a good job. He was a good man. Take your time and keep on searching. You might come up with something. Life is too short to worry. Just take your time and keep on looking up. God Bless and God Speed, Danny
