Hi, my grand father William Poole Read served for the whole of the first world war. He told my aunty that he had shared cigerettes with German soldiers and I would love to know if he was part of the Christmas day truce of 1914. He was a sapper in the royal engineers and I believe he was at the Somme but have no other information apart from his regimental number which was 140732.
If anyone could help me discover where he was during the war that would be amazing!
Have a very Merry Christmas
