I am researching my great-great-grandfather and obtained his regiment number from a medal (can't recall which one) that my grandmother still has.
I have managed to find the medal roll index card but I am somewhat confused by the comments section. The comments seem to indicate that he was convicted on the 11 September 1918 of desertion but this has been crossed out. Would this mean that he did not desert?
The story that my grandmother seems to recall was that he was the victim of a mustard gas attack, however, I assume that this may have been a story told to hide any shame.
I have so far established that he was married in 1910 and in 1911 was living with his new wife and a daughter (my great-grandmother) in Lichfield, Aston near Birmingham. They had a second daughter in 1912 but after this I have not been able to find any more information.
Any help would be appreciated.
