I had certainly missed some of the details that you have picked up and in particular that he was discharged to the army reserves.
I will certainly look into whether the National Archives at Kew have anymore information. I have not been able to find any further information on ancestry regarding his service so I do fear that his records may have been destroyed, however, this is a family member about whom I know very little and have only just begun to find census information on so something may yet come up.
I have recently found out that he may have died in 1919 so it would appear that he may have survived WWI something which I guess a deserter would not have done.
