74th Co., 6th Regiment, Marine Corp
If anyone is looking for info for an ancestor that served in the 74h Company, 6th Marines in WWI, I found a file folder at a garage sale with loads of names, dates, wounded and so on. Let me know and I will do a look-up for you.

Hello, Just came across your post. I am researching the 74th Co. and would be very interested in this. If possible, I would like to have a copy of the entire folder. Will send payment for same. Thanks,

Is is possible to have a copy of the files made? I would be very glad to reimburse you for costs and postage. If not, do you have any information on Herbert Brooks, William T. Maynard, and Walter H. Sawyer?
Thank you.

Re: 74th Co., 6th Regiment, Marine Corp
I just saw this post from several years ago, and I am very interested. My grandfather served with A/1/6th Marines, also known as 74th Co. He was wounded in a night gas attack soon after the Regiment first entered the lines, and again near the end of the war (Sept 1918). Do you still have the material?

Hello and yes I still have this material. What was your grandfather's name and do you have any photos of him and his unit?

Re: 74th Co., 6th Regiment, Marine Corp
My grandfather served in the 6th Marines under the name Fred C Smith. Not his real name, mind you. He served in the Army starting in 1911 and later wound up in the 6th Marines. I have seen the unit photos taken at Quantico of each of the companies in 1917, but have not seen one detailed enough to have my dad (who's 82) try to identify him. Do you have a good copy of the 1917 photo? The ones I've found on the web are low resolution. The only photo I have of him in uniform was taken after the war with his brother.

Re: 74th Co., 6th Regiment, Marine Corp
Don't have any photo of the 74th Co. in 1917 but do have two taken in 1919 during the occupation of Germany but I don't think your grandfather was in any of these photos for he was in and out of the hospital since November 1918. Looks like he was discharged from the 332nd Casual Company, Marine Barracks, Quantico at the convenience of the Government on June 30, 1919, character excellent. The list I have of the 74th shows Fred C. Smith as having been gassed on April 13 and wounded on Nov. 2nd.

Re: 74th Co., 6th Regiment, Marine Corp
Thanks, we have all that information already. You're right, we was shot on Nov 2, 1918, so he would not have appeared in the 1919 photos. I would dearly like a hi-res scan of that 1917 photo. i have one for the 78th co, but not the 74th.
Thanks Again

Re: 74th Co., 6th Regiment, Marine Corp
My grandfather served in the 74th Co. 6th during WWI. Trained at Parris Island. Seems like he was on a Rhine River Patrol 1919 From Pittsburgh, maybe Company 'A' Quantico in 1918. Read that someone had a photo of the 74th. Any information would be great. Many thanks in advance.
