Hello,

I have a Registration Card that says "Order 772" (handwritten) just above Family Name. Would anyone know what "Order 772" stands for?

Regards,
Jerry

I have come across a card like this before. You should check on the Registrar's report which would be like the 2nd page; but actually the reverse of the card. It contains the color of the eyes, hair, build, and if there is a disability.

You want to look in the precinct area. It probably won't have a number there as it generally does; but a name of where he is possibly located. That order No. has something to do with where he is located.

There is probably another number just before the "Ord or Order 772". You will probably find a four digit number at the top left hand corner of the "Registration Card" section.

Hi,

Thanks for replying. Here is a link to the registration card on familysearch (https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1961-25924-4148-61?...). It does not seem to list anything unusual in regards to the second page (no disabilities etc.). Just thought it was strange to see the order 772 - especially when trying to research Oscar's parents with no luck (can't find him in the 1900 or 1910 census). Was hoping there might have been a connection with not finding him and the order 772 (possible name change etc - adoption).....

I am positive it is an order number pertaining to your relative. I am not saying it is bad or good. It could be anything. The military issues orders for everything under the sun. Why don't you try;

1. Getting in touch with NARA. They help on line and also have local offices in the United States.
The E-Mail addresses, Postal Addresses and Telephone numbers are listed on the NARA
sight.
2. Local VA (Veterans Administration). Generally on the County level.
You are generally talking to a veteran.

I hope this helps. God Bless and God Speed. A very Merry Christmas.
Danny

I will still research further; but still have some shopping to do and cards to send.

Was his birthday the correct birthday that was on the reg. Card and what was his date of death.
Could you give any more particulars about him. Father or mothers name. Was there a middle initial or Christian name or both. Danny

Here is the info about Oscar that is assumed to be correct. His obituary did not really shed any light - nor his marriage records - guess he was married a few times.

Oscar Hugh Johnson
Birth March 10 1892 in Calais, Maine, USA
Death March 30, 1959 in Bangor

Parents listed were William Johnson and Catherine McCready. No idea what happened to them - zero luck finding them in the census records.

I do have a subscription to ancestry.com.

I think you have the wrong registration card. There is a registration Card for Oscar Hugh Johnson and there is a family tree. In the tree he did serve; but some how you have the registration cards mixed up.

The Oscar Hugh Johnson that I came across everything matches up. The 1930 census matches with the wife Tressie and his two children on the 1930 census. The 1930 census and quite a few other census are on that tree.. They list a military background and also the military outfit he was with and other info; but on the 11930 Census. He states he did not serve. That could be true or a mistake on his part for some reason or a mistake by the Enumerator

I suggest you do a search on him again. The information is right there. It is very basic research and the info is there. If you use the same info as a member. I can't understand why you didn't get this info. Yes and in the family tree. It is noted that he was married a couple of times. Take Care Danny

Hi Danny,

There were 2 Oscar Johnsons who were born in Maine at about the same time - they both have registration cards. Fairly certain that I have the right one - birth date and place of birth match correctly. I can find Oscar in the 1920, 1930 and 1940 census - nothing before that though. According to family he did not serve but he does have a registration card for WWI. The mystery for Oscar is his birth (can't be found in the Maine birth records - even a trip to Calais has not produced anything). This would confirm his parents names. Even finding them on the 1900 and/or 1910 census would be helpful. Even though Oscar's parents are listed on his death record and various marriage records, his parents are listed as being born in the USA, and or Canada, and or Ireland etc. Any info found on ancestry.com for Oscar is basically just a guess by various family members - no one really knows.....nothing concrete was passed on down etc.

Was probably grasping at straws thinking that the Order 772 might have something to do with his last name (since that is where it appears).

Regards,
Jerry

I don't like to beat a dead horse. You can have two Oscars; but you can't have the same parents and the same wives and children. They are listed on a census. Maybe it is something I am missing; but my search according to your information . It brought up one Oscar H. Johnson.

Take care and I hope you find what you are looking for. Danny
