Ladies and Gentlemen,

I am looking for letters, diaries, journals, reminiscences, military correspondence and documents, newspaper articles, and family stories for Lieutenant Colonel Norman Marshall, 54th Battalion. I am trying to confirm his interaction with an American Infantry Battalion in the 30th Infantry Division in early October 1918.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Hi Gerald,

You may find the below links of interest;

There is a lot more, including possible service records, but I will need to know things like date of birth, place of birth and parents etc before searching. If you can give me those details I will have a look for you.

Thanks

Hi

His service record is under WW2 section in NAA records, no mention of being with a US unit as far as I can see.
He was transferred to 56th Btn on 11th October 1918, so you may need to look at their war diary also to see if any interaction.

regards

Robert

Gerald,

See http://www.1914-1918.net/bat30.htm

Both the Australian 5th Division (which included 54th battalion) and US 30th Infantry reported as capturing Bellicourt Tunnel defences. If memory serves correctly, this was where Marshall received his 2nd bar to his DSO
