I have a military record of one of my ancestor's and he served War of 1812 in J. L. Pearson's 65th Regiment PA Militia.

Does anyone know what co. in PA this militia was formed?

Or where I can find out the location of J. L. Pearson's 65th Regiment PA Militia?

Thanks.

Gabrial Watson was a private in the 2nd company commanded by Captain George Hartman Jr. of the 65th regiment that was commanded by Colonel John L. Pearson.
The 2nd co. had 100 men with 5 sergeants and 4 corporals and was a company of drafted men that was attached to the 65th from an unreadable regiment. This is from a payroll record at a camp near Marcus Hook on Oct. 17, 1814.
The record was as formed as they lined upto sign for pay, so the six men closest to him were George Hipple, Ezekiel Powel, Henry Moses, Jacob Heck, John Scott, James Himes in the event there is a possible friedship or relationship.

Gosh...THANKS Patrick!

I've had a terrible time finding information on War of 1812 in PA.

Do you know what area of PA the 65th was formed?

Is this information from your own database?

I can't tell you how much I appreciate this information! Thanks again.

Michelle,
The information which is available in Penn. Archive books is from a library I have acess to. I can not tell you where the 65th was formed but if you use the others soldiers I listed, you may discover the source. Please notice that this company was attached to the 65th from an unknown or illlegibly written Regiment name. Several, other Companies in the 65th were also attached, the 44th Reg't. and 100th to name two known regiments. You can find more, but it depends.

Michelle,
One thing that occured frequently in the Militia, but not in every Regiment or situation was that Company Captains were often voted in by the soldiers in that Company. I think this Captain was from either Chester or Berks, so you might try the roots web Penn County boards there to see if anyone could do a lookup information on 1812 data. Both counties have written histories.
