The Town of Brookeville, MD, is celebrating the Bicentennial of Brookeville as U.S. Capital for a Day, on August 30 and 31, 2014 (www.uscapitalforaday.org).

You’re invited to attend a 200-year reunion if you have relatives who lived in the Quaker town of Brookeville during the war and housed refugees, if you are related to soldiers who served in the Battle of Bladensburg or continued to the Battle of Baltimore in 1814, or if you are a descendent of an 1812 war refugee from Washington or Georgetown. A list of known persons in Brookeville at that time can be found at http://uscapitalforaday.org/archaeology/. If you are not sure of your direct lineage, focus on surnames, instead.
During the celebratory weekend, costumed living historians and re-enactors will play the roles of President Madison, General Mason, Attorney General Rush, Col. James Monroe, Brookeville residents, and ordinary refugees from Washington and Georgetown. There will be craft demonstrations and technology exhibits of Brookeville life in 1814, as well as food and entertainment. A detailed schedule can be found at www.uscapitalforaday.org.

Descendents and their families are invited to be part of a commemorative photo opportunity and to attend the final activity for the weekend, the REUNION BBQ, at the Longwood Community Center, 19300 Georgia Ave, Brookeville, MD 20833, on Sunday, August 31, 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. Forms for photo orders will be available at the picnic. The picnic includes: one pulled pork & one pulled chicken slider sandwich, coleslaw, chips, brownies, and your choice of choice of beverage - Coke, lemonade, ice tea, or water. Alcohol sold separately. Tickets: $15 pp, in advance, TBA at www.uscapitalforaday.org.

To be recognized with a special name tag as a descendant during the weekend commemoration, write to: Lisa Coster lbcoster@costercommunications.com or Dorothy Fuchs purpledotpr@comcast.net.
