I have an ancestor that was part of Capt. Sale's Battalion, Virginia Militia, Cavalry Unit from Amherst County. I am try to determine where the unit was stationed, how long they were together, and if they were involved in any action. I ordered the ancestor's file from NARA and received a note that most of his documents were degraded/unreadable.

What I did received shows him in Norfolk from April 13 to July 23 1814. This batt'l is not mentioned in historical notes that I've found online except for one note. It states that the unit was sent to Norfolk for relief because other units had soldiers that would be mustering out in the near future.

If anyone else has information on this unit, I would appreciate some help. If your ancestor was in this unit and their records have more information, I would love to hear about it.
