I'm a VN researcher (didn't know him). He was with A Company, 1st Battalion, 35th Regiment, 25th Infantry Division. His Unit was doing a search/destroy sweep on 19 May 67 near the village of Duc Pho in Quang Ngai Province. That night Pfc Duncan was placed in a defensive perimeter - when the Viet Cong attacked them in the early morning of 20 May. Three (3) soldiers were KIA in the attack: Pfc Walter Duncan, SP4 Richard Harrison (Memphis, TN), Pfc Josh Peters (Salina, OK). He had arrived in VN on 04/12/67, and is buried at Owl Creek Cemetery, Union Township, OH.
I recommend you do a posting at the 1/35 VN alumni website, as one of their members might have been there with him that night.

Thank you for your reply. As I read through the letters from the military big-wigs about my brothers death, I realize these are canned replies written to make the family feel proud but not necessarily to inform. We were so mislead about the war (why we were there, what we accomplished and why it was worthy of all the loss of life). Learning the facts has become my mission but also understanding what my brother experienced, to give some peace (not closure) to the family regarding his death. I wonder if he would have given his medals back if he had made it home.
