I'm not an expert on these ships, but according to Wikipedia, St Marys number three served only until 1918 as a patrol boat. The only St Marys to serve in WWII was APA-126, which was launched in Sept 1944. Maybe the ship your father was on earlier in 1944 was one of the others he served on. I know my father thought he was on the St Marys by June 1944, but I see now, he must be wrong about that. Anyway, I can send you a copy of the story if you'd like.
