May I wish you a belated welcome to America.
Contact me by e-mail, my address is dbohen@kc.rr.com and I'll send you my address and Phone number. In the meantime I'll see what information I still have.
For your immediate information this ship was built to transport troops. I think there were six or eight built in her class. She hit the water during wartime, however she never had any guns placed on her, although some mountings had been built into her. I think, as built, she could carry more than 3,000 troops. Some time after I came home from Europe in March 1946 she was refitted to carry the many displaced persons from Europe. Latter, I do not know when, she went back into service as a troop ship and was then sold.
This ship was built with minor changes from an earlier design. The changes were mostly on deck and would not be noticed unless you were an expert on this class of ships. I think I still have offfical plans of the ship which shows how the different were devidedd and for what purposes. Maybe you can determine were your bunk was.
I also have pictures, secured from the interned when you could find such objects, whic are on a CD. I willneed to find it, wish me luck.
I am going onto age 89 and I have trouble moving around so it may take me a few days to collect everything. What ever I get I will be glad to pass on to you.
