Glad to hear from you. A belated welcome to America.
Sorry for the delayed response to your request. I answered in a "new thread" not realizing that my message would not reach you.
My e-mail address is dbohen@kc.rr.com. I'll use that to communicate in the future.
Off the top of my head the Ernie Pyle was one of 15 ships built as a class. All had a first name of Marine except the Ernie Pyle. Moreover, the Pyle was the first in the class not to carry armaments, although built during wartime.
I do have some information here about the ship including some pictures of her and "official" plans which show below deck information.I would be pleased to pass these items along to you.
Looking forward to hearing from you

Thanks for your response, Dave. I would be grateful to see the plans showing below deck information, especially, to confirm my recollections. I have a postcard image of the ship, but perhaps your images are different, so that would be very good too. How shall I proceed? I'm a registered guest on this site. Here is my e mail: rasa@rasatime.com
Shall write you a note directly now. Rasa

I just saw this post. My mother and brother both came from Poland/Germany in 1946 on the Ernie Pyle. I have a large picture of it that my mother had brought back, I'm not sure where she got it from. Let me know and maybe I can get a copy of it made for you.

Thanks for the offer. I came home from the war on the Ernie Pyle and built a model of the ship. At that time I was looking for information about the ship. I have long finished the model and no longer need any information about the ship.
Rosa Gustaitis might be interested in your offer. She also came to America on the Ernie Pyle and is writing a book about her experiences She is also a member of Ancestry.
Again, thank you for your offer.

Surnames: Newman (Naijman, Naiman)
I just saw this on Ancestry.
My mom and her sister AND parents cam on the same ship in Dec., 1946.
Do you know if there is a manifest of passengers?

Ancestry does have a list of passengers arriving 13 Dec 1946. Click on search and then under Immigration and travel click on passengers lists. Then enter any pertinent info and search. Good luck. Don

I am sorry to say that I don't know where that would be found. I suspect that one exists, but don't know what Department of the Government would have this record.
May I suggest that you write to the Smithsonian. They may be able to direct you to the proper Government Department.
Good luck!
