The Northern Territory Library wishes to update its Roll of Honour database created
http://www.ntlexhibit.nt.gov.au/exhibits/show/bodto commemorate those who were killed or who died as a result of their wounds received on 19th February 1942 when Darwin was bombed.
Wendel Herbert Hanson was born in May 1918 in South Dakota, the third son of Herbert Miller and Ann M. Hanson, who had migrated from Sweden. He enlisted on 22 June 1937 from Omaha, Nebraska, and served on the Medusa from 1 November 1937. He then transferred to the Cruiser Houston on 30 September 1940. Hanson also served on the Stewart from 31 July 1941 with Lieutenant John Bermingham, who was the XO, and transferred to the Peary on 31 December 1941, serving as Signalman 2nd Class (315-50-68). Hanson was twenty-three when he died in Darwin Harbour.
