Re: African american lists for wwl
I have the book List of Mothers and Widows of American Soldiers, Sailors and Marines Entitle To Make A Pilgrimage to the War Cemeteries in Europe. If you give me the name of the soldier's mother, the name of the soldier and the state and county they were from I can see if the soldier and his mother are listed in my book. It will provide cemetery information as well.
I apologize for the delay in replying to this message. I wasn't notified anyone had posted to this board. Traci

Jerry Louviere and Elvira Louviere
I searched the full list for the State of Tennessee and could not find Jerry or his mother listed. I am not surprised, since my great great grandmother, Harriet Bates and her son are not listed either and she also went over. Unfortunately Harriet did not return to the US alive. She passed away while visiting her son's grave at Meuse-Argonne. I always thought that's why she didn't make the list...?

Re: African american lists for wwl
I noticed Ancestry reports the Global Index to Non Burials, Burials at Sea and Other Burial Locations shows Fere-en-Tardenois, Departement de l'Aisne, Picardie, France as the "other" burial or cremation location of Jerry Louviere. I looked for this location and it doesn't appear anywhere in my book for any of the buried from WWI. Oise Aisne burials are listed in the book, but like I said, the Global Index on Ancestry does not indicate this as the burial location for Jerry.

I saw that on an Ancestry result when I did a search and checked that County also. No listing in my book. I should have mentioned that. I'm sorry. Traci

Re: African american lists for wwl
There were photos taken during the pilgrimages as well as documents and even the GSM's application.
I've been all over the articles and various departments at the National Archives and I've managed to find that all documents and photographs relating to each Gold Star Mother who made the pilgrimage, are kept with the associated BURIAL FILE of the soldier, sailor or marine who died. The burial file is NOT the same as a personnel file. I remember seeing that the burial files are boxed alphabetically and kept by the Quartermaster General.
I wrote to the National Archives for my great uncle's burial file and was returned a letter stating I had sent my request to the wrong address. Let me try to find the letter and I will get you the correct address to request the burial file.
