Robert Blankenship, b. 1928 d. 1968, enlisted for 3 years in 1946. I can find no other military information i.e. where stationed, rank @ d/c, etc. Would appreciate any information you may have. Robert was my biological parent but I never knew him.

Have you accessed Mr. Blankenship's Discharge Documents?

I wouldn't even know how to go about getting said documents; however, I will contact the appropriate branch and request them. Thank you so much for responding!

So you are clear on the sources, the "appropriate branch" is you. Veterans were provided with 6-10 copies of their Discharge Documents when they were discharged from the U.S. Military. Where are those 6-10 copies? The Funeral Home that handled the Veteran's arrangements? The Court House of the County that the Veteran resided in after WW 2? The Veteran's Administration? Veterans of Foreign Wars? American Legion?

Now I am clear : ). Robert passed in 1968, I know nothing of his father, and my grandmother expired some years ago so there is no one left to ask. I know he enlisted in 1946 for 3 years and assigned as an ETO (? European Theater Operations ?); I am assuming he was Army but have nothing to back the assumption up.

I will start there asking for d/c papers and if I am unsuccessful, I will contact the court house of residence at time of death.

I didn't know of the man until a year after his death so I am finding information a piece at a time.

Thank you for your help - I would not have thought of the other sources.

Looking at your other posts here is what I found with that information using the free online NARA ADD website of US Army Enlistments 1939-1946. Ancestry has the same database but does not include Service Numbers which are needed to try to get a copy of Service Records.
Webpage link:

Robert Blankenship b. 1928 living Wyoming County WV. Enlisted April 30, 1946 at Ft. Hayes Columbus Ohio. Private, Air Corps, 3 years of High School, Single with dependents. Army Service Number 15237264.

FYI:
Robert is in the 1940 census in Slab Fork, Wyoming County WV. listed as Bob Blankenship, son, age 11 in household of Wilda Shumate (as head). husband Howard Shumate.

William Blankenship is listed as Billie Blankenship, age 14, grandson in the household of Horace McGraw also in 1940 Slab Fork, Wyoming County WV.

Thank you very much for your assistance. Wonder who he listed as a dependent? I may have a b/s of which I am unaware. He and my mom married in 1950 then viola! here I came. I was under the impression I was his only child. This could be exciting!

A "dependent" is not the same as a "descendant" (children). Men could claim not only children, but mothers, fathers, minor aged siblings, minor aged nieces and nephews, in-laws of same, grandchildren, of course wife, if married as "dependents" on those records.
