My husband's Great Grandfather immigrated to the US from Wales in 1888. There is Veteran of Foreign War medalion stake that has been placed on his grave. I have contacted the local office but unable to get an answer.

To help get me in the right direction to look: What Military Action would he have been a part of between 1881-1888?

And.... when looking at many of the military records, it doesn't necessarily tell you 'who' they were beyond name. Nothing else to help identify if that person is the one you are looking for, ie birth date or place, family names, etc. How do you know what is correct? Especially with a fairly common name such as "Thomas H Watkins."
