I am trying to locate information on the 8th Virginia calvary and the 17th Virginia Calvary Co.A. I understand my great grea grandfather served in both. He enlisted in Mercer county, WV in 1861. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for answering my post. My grandfather was James Floyd Ratliff. The only info I have is that he enlisted in the 8th Virginia Calvary on July 13, 1861 at Neely's farm in Mercer County, Virginia. And that he also served in Company A, 17th Virginia Calvary. I would like to find out about these two units as much as possible. Any battles or where they camped anything you might have. My personal e mail is elettasmom@aol.com.
