Thanks for the reply to my posting. Basically what I am doing is taking a look at the battle of Stones River on a regiment by regiment level, in a much greater depth of detail than has previously been done. I am also going to reexamine some of the more controversial decisions and events of the battle: Bragg's battle plan, Breckinridge's failure on the 2nd, the "surprise" of the Union right, etc.

At this point in my research, I am still compiling background and sources for each regiment, figuring out casualties, etc. I have finished McCown's and Cleburne's divisions on the Confederate side, as well as Johnson's and Davis' divisions on the Union side. I am really at step 2 of a 4 step research process, the next part after all the background and sources are identified is to actually acquire the sources, evaluate them, and seperate the wheat from the chaff so to speak. Part 4 will be the actual writing process. I expect to have the book completed and ready for publication by 2008-2010 barring any unforeseen circumstances.

I have a lot of other Civil War projects ongoing as well and if you'd like, please check out my website at hometown.aol.com/dam1941/home1.html

There is an article about John F. Miller's brigade at Stones River there, which while a little rough and not sourced adequately on the Confederate side, gives a good indication of where I'm going with my book and research. It seems that every time I go to the library, I come across some new fact or tidbit that fleshes out the story a little more. I think that if I wrote the Miller article now, my conclusions would be about the same but I would have included more of the events from the Confederate perspective as well to give it balance.

Look forward to hearing from you soon about your own project!

Best Regards,
Dan Masters
