MCG,
You may have discovered the answers to your questions by now but I'll respond anyway. My GGGGrandfather was in Cocke's Regiment also. I'm currently composiing a book on this regiment but still have about a year's worth of research and writing to do. July 4th 1863 was the Battle of Helena, Arkansas and this regiment was the vanguard of the entire Confederate Army. It sustained many losses and many men were captured. Many more were wounded in hospitals. Some of these men were counted as AWOL simply because they did not know where they were. This regiment after July 4th until Sept. 10th was stationed in Little Rock. I'm always looking for personal information about the men in Cocke's Regiment that I might be able to put in this book. If you have anything to share or if you have a photograph of your ancestor please contact me! Good luck on your research.
