I am looking for information about these surnames in Carroll county or Boone county. They left Arkansas in the late 1800's and went to Oklahoma

I found a John Muns in OK that had several children in AR and TX. Don't see the dates right off, but he and his wife had 9 children. The reason this caught my eye is because my great grandfather was supposedly adopted by the PADGETTS, but no one knows his true family name. This info I found listed the 9 children and the births and deaths of most children, but the peculiar thing about it was that only one of their children had a different last name, George Padgett. That was my ggfathers name. The childrens names were: Annie May Muns(Washburn)b May 9 1886 TX, Jimmy b Aug 20, 1888 TX, Myrtle b Sept 3, 1890-d July 22, 1973 AZ, Ocie b May 5, 1892 OK-d Feb 11, 1908, John Franklin b May 13, 1894 TX-Dec 18, 1942 OK, Beatrice (George) b Nov 21, 1894 Stone Co, ARdd OK, James Henry b Mar 18,1896 OK- d Aug 20, 1927, Cartrell b June 3, 1899, and George Padgett. All George had was Oct 2- Stigler, Haskel Co OK, but no year or wether it was his birth or death. My ggfather was born Feb 26, 1887-d Mar 15, 1967, or at least thats what his obit says. I'd like to have more info on the Muns because they may be my true ancestors. Thank you

Sorry,
evidently I need to check my listing. I am the owner of the web site you mentioned. George Padgett was married to Myrtle MUNS. My fathers sister. They were married in Stigler, OK.
I don't know too much about the Padgets. There is a Nora Padgett living in the Poteau, OK that is related. If you put an add in the paper there, I'm sure she would contact you.

Cheryl,
I've tracked you down from old address online here and "Dickerson and Muns" postings dating to 1999. You told a story about your Dickerson being shot after a card game, and then you also have the surname Muns. These two things are adding up to a very strange coincidence and I have to see if there is any connection.

I have 3 ANDREWS / ANDERS sisters that came to eastern Arkansas (St. Francis county and Monroe County---are of Brinkley, AR) with their parents from GA about 1855 (Wilkes, Lincoln GA area). Mary Catherine ANDREWS / ANDERS married Andrew J. MUNS. Julia Ann ANDREWS Pullen married William Muns and had a son James b 1861 before she died that November . . . and a younger sister, Henrietta Elizabeth ANDREWS / ANDERS married a James Riley Muns.

The only family I had any luck in tracking was Andrew J. and Mary Catherine---through 1880 in Monroe Co., AR .. . and I think their son George W. MUNS went later to Shelby co., Memphis, TN and died there around 1920---names on the census look like the same George who was previously in AR.
I have the names of other children . . . Floyd was one I think, but I'll check if you think this Muns line could be part of yours.

Now--to the Dickerson name. One of the ANDREWS / ANDERS sisters--my gg grandmother Parthenia-- came to AR already married to the family overseer --married 1851 to George HOUSE, who died after 1860 and she married Edward HOLLEMAN / HOLMAN who died 1873, then her last marriage was to Dillard L. COOPER, b 1838 SC. They married Aug. 1876 Monroe Co., AR. Dillard 's family was Benson G. COOPER and Delphia nee LINDSEY / LINDSAY.

Benson G. had a number of children (all came from SC to AR about 1845) and one child was named Cordelia (a sister to my Dillard L. COOPER) and Cordelia had a 1st marriage to a Dickerson . . . who the story goes, was shot after a card game--just like your Dickerson. My genealogy connection to Cordelia's line told me the story, and she doesn't know the given name of that Dickerson. Cordelia next married a Joseph FRUEN / FRUIN and later moved to Yell County, ARK. One of Cordelia's sons, a Calvin Dickerson, was the nephew in the 1880 household of my Dillard L. COOPER and wife Parthenia ANDREWS / ANDERS House HOLMAN Cooper in Brinkley, Monroe Co., AR.

So, whatdaya think? Any connection of your Dickerson and Muns to my family?
