Jen, I have an ancestor listed in the draft in Schuylkill Co., and he shows up in Bates the same as my ancestors who volunteered, but it lists him as being drafted. Could your ancestor have paid for a substitute to avoid fighting or did he possibly die before he could actually serve? Sorry I can't give you any more help, but thought I could at least let you know that I've seen draftees listed the same as volunteers in Bates. Good luck with your search!
