I am confused about this man!! I am trying to figure out if the man who is buried in the Mount Calvary Cemetery in Richmond, Virginia with a grave marker stating that he was in the Massachusetts 1st Heavy Artillery Regiment is the same man who was born in Ireland in abt 1846 and married to Margaret Sullivan. I have found the military record on ancestry.com for William J. Manning showing his residence was East Cambridge, Mass and he enlisted on 3 Dec 1862, but the death date is different. The death date for the man I am searching for was on 17 Jan 1893 ALSO in Richmond, Virginia. I find it strange that there were TWO William J. Manning's in Richmond, Virginia...both from Ireland and both with similar birth dates.

Can anyone tell me where I might find more information on the William J. Manning listed in these Civil War records so that I can determine if these are one in the same persons...or two separate people? I really need to try to figure this out!!!

Thank you very much for any and all help!!

Susan
